Gérard Fiou, Terroir Silex Sancerre 2018

Brilliant pale lemon hue

Full and expressive on the nose, with notes of white grapefruit, greengage, and honeysuckle

Quite voluptuous for a Sancerre with a racy streak of acidity, and lovely layers of fruit and minerality

About the Producer

A small family domaine in the east of the Sancerre appellation

Gerard Fiou started with just 5 hectares in the beautiful village of Saint-Satur in the Central Vineyards of the Loire Valley.

Today he has 34 hectares and the domaine is the only estate in Sancerre with equal parts limestone and flint in the vineyard which contributes to the pure and fresh texture of this particular Sancerre.

Only a small percentage of terroir in Sancerre is made up of this soil type, which is much more common in neighboring Pouilly-Fume.This, combined with unusually old vines, means memorable Sancerre with deep minerality.

This slightly richer style of Sancerre goes well with a wider variety of foods. It's still crisp and dry, but has a little more oomph and therefore pairs nicely with more hearty dishes as we go into Autumn. This flavourful take on a fisherman's pie is a great match.
