Ronco delle Betulle is one of the great, smaller producers in the Colli Orientali, located on the exceptional site of Rosazzo. They have been farming this grand cru level site since 1967. The wines from the hill of Rosazzo DOCG are truly remarkable - grown on Ponca soil and influenced by the Adriatic and the Alps. Ivana Adami and her son Simone share a philosophy that wine should be a true reflection of their origin and their winemaking style is authentic and artisanal yielding some of Italy’s finest gems. Their Cabernet Franc is an excellent example of a cool climate red with a lovely perfumed nose, and great balance of vivid berry fruit, and mineral and leafy edged. Savoury, pure, and concentrated, this wine is a true family triumph.
Ronco delle Betulle 2017 Rosazzo, Friuli, Italy
Ronco delle Betulle nestles in the hilly eastern part of Friuli in a subzone called Rosazzo, an estate of approximately seventeen hectares, of which ten are under vine. The hills of Rosazzo benefit from a special microclimate determined by several geographical factors: its proximity to the sea and its altitude. The sea mitigates the climate, the elevation ensures that Rosazzo is well ventilated and well lit, whilst the vicinity of Mount Caterina protects the area from the northerly wind. Ivana Adami has a purist wine-making philosophy: that the essential character of the wine derives from the sun, the soil and the area and that typicity should be respected and preserved, never altered. Elegance and freshness are other watchwords; these are wines with keen acidity.
