Domaine aux Moines, Le Berceau des Fées 2018 Loire, France
Monique Laroche and her daughter Tessa own a beautiful property and a rare Grand Cru terroir: La Roche aux Moines, on Loire’s river shores. Their domain is now known as one of the famous in Loire Valley. "Le Berceau des Fees", the cradle of the fairies, is a lively and refreshing organic white wine perfect with seafood, salads, and aperitif. It has generous flavours of yellow apple, lemon, white grapefruit, with notes of fresh herb, lemon pith and a juicy succulent finish.
Susana Balbo Signature White Blend 2020 Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
Winemaking legend, Susana Balbo was the first female winemaker in Argentina and is now considered a national icon for her work developing new regions and wine styles. She now works closely with her daughter and two sons on her own-label wines that have been hugely successful around the world. The Susana Balbo Signature White Blend is a very aromatic wine with floral and citrus notes that are combined with hints of fresh grass, white fruits and orange. It has a divine silky texture from barrel ageing and a wonderfully crisp finish. Lots of ageing potential to gain complexity with time, but already delicious.
Ronco delle Betulle Cabernet Franc 2017 Rosazzo, Friuli, Italy
Ronco delle Betulle is one of the great, smaller producers in the Colli Orientali, located on the exceptional site of Rosazzo. They have been farming this grand cru level site since 1967. The wines from the hill of Rosazzo DOCG are truly remarkable - grown on Ponca soil and influenced by the Adriatic and the Alps. Ivana Adami and her son Simone share a philosophy that wine should be a true reflection of their origin and their winemaking style is authentic and artisanal yielding some of Italy’s finest gems. Their Cabernet Franc is an excellent example of a cool climate red with a lovely perfumed nose, and great balance of vivid berry fruit, and mineral and leafy edged. Savoury, pure, and concentrated, this wine is a true family triumph.
Domaine Gramenon, Sierra du Sud 2019 Rhône, France
Gramenon is a little unusual, in that it makes high-end wines from vineyards that bear no more than the lowly appellation of Côtes du Rhône. The domain was set up by Phillipe and Michelle Aubery-Laurent in 1990 and quickly made a reputation for its concentrated, complex wines from very ripe grapes, which come mainly from old vines. Phillipe died in an accident in 1999, but Michelle has continued with the domaine with the assistance of her son, Maxime. The Sierra du Sud, with its bright and exuberant dark fruit core alongside classic Syrah meatiness- is a sommelier favourite and is only available by limited allocations.
