Producer Profile

Suertes del Marqués is a family winery that has been producing wines since 2006. However, our tradition as winegrowers dates back to twenty years ago that date, growing and selling our grapes to other wineries in the Apellation Valle de La Orotava.

Geographically we are in the north of the island of Tenerife, in Valle de La Orotava, a valley within the town of the same name.

Without losing sight of the respect for tradition, cornerstone of our winery

Grape Profile

Listán Negro (not to be confused with Listán Prieto) is a red Spanish wine grape variety that is widely planted in the Canary Islands, particularly on the island of Tenerife. Listan Negro is a cross between Listan Blanco (Palomino fino) and Tinta Negro Mole, a variety better know in Madeira.

Region Profile

The vineyards are situated at the northern side of the island in the Orotava Valley, at an altitude of 250-750 metres. The soil is volcanic with different compositions depending on each particular plot. The climate is humid sub-tropical.

Viticulture

Viticulture is organic and the vines are between 8 and 100 years old depending on the plot. The older ones are trained in the traditional cordon system, whilst the youngest are trained in espalier. 7 Fuentes is composed of 35 plots from area winegrowers and from our property with vines ranging from 10 to approximately 180 years old. The heights of the different vineyards ranges from 250 to 800 meters above sea level.

This wine is made with two varietals: listán negro, cultivated mainly in cordón trenzado; and tintilla, from Bocanegra plot and in telegraph system.

Each plot is vinified separately and assembled just before bottling

Vinification

The different plots’ grapes are fermented in different temperature-controlled vessels, including 5,700 litre concrete tanks, open plastic and stainless steel vats. The fermentation is short, with a gentle skin contact period. The resulting wine is then matured for 8 months in concrete tanks (60%) and French oak barrels (40%).
