Producer Profile

Iole Rabasco inherited her family’s small vineyard and olive grove, neither of which have ever been
treated with chemicals. And she’s taken that blessing and run with it. Her property is nestled in north-central
Abruzzo where you have unique meso- and micro-climates. Her 3.5 hectares are located in the village of

Grape

Montepulciano is a red wine grape grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. However, it is not planted in Montepulciano in southern Tuscany (see below). The variety is used mainly to produce dry red wines. A notable exception can be found in the lighter, cherry colored Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. Montepulciano wines are globally appreciated for their soft flavors and strong color pigments. Gentle tannins and a low acidity create a medium bodied wine that is typically best consumed soon after bottling.

Region

Abruzzo is an Italian wine region on the east (Adriatic) coast. Its immediate neighbors in central Italy are Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and southwest and Molise to the southeast. The geographical makeup of Abruzzo is quite remarkable. A rugged, mountainous region with a lengthy coastline, its lush, green landscape is scattered with national parks and forests. Abruzzo is ideally situated between the Adriatic sea to the east, and the Apennine mountain range and the Maiella massif to the west. The region is home to Gran Sasso, one of Italy's highest peaks at 2912m (9554ft).

Viticulture

We make our wine inspired by the ancient glory of local tradition where man and his manual work were at the heart of the ideal triangle in which the territorial vocation and the traditional vine variety become a guarantee of honesty and authenticity ….
We respect our land by never using any chemicals and by trying to improve its vital harmony with biodynamic treatments.

Vinification

Fermentation begins freely and we make our wine in 10 HL truncated vats.
We follow the astronomical calendar for working on our land and in the cellar.
